The Roles of religion, society and family love in Holden s search for self-identity in J.D Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye

This thesis talks about the teenager's life in the search for self-identity which involve religion, society and family love. The writer of this thesis is interested in discussing "The Catcher in the Rye", for through this novel she knows more about psychology of the young. The role of religion, society and family love will be analyzed in Chapter V. While the back ground theories of the three aspects are dicussed in Chapter IV. The writer of this thesis describes the society which causes the protagonist's, Holden's frustration and almost kills his life spirit. Holden has such strong self- confidence that he can overcome his problems. His parents do not understand what he needs exactly. However, he has to face and solve the problems by himself. The story is quite a complicated one when the readers follow the writer's analysis. The thesis writer wants to arouse the readers attention toward teenagers' problems that often happen today.
